One of the most serious and lethal complications of atherosclerosis is stroke caused by floating plaque blocking major blood vessels in the brain. Floating plaque is calcium and fat based solid deposits lifted off from the blood vessel itself. Stroke is the number one killer and debilitating disease of modern society. To minimize the chances of plaque formation within the blood vessels, many cholesterol lowering formulas are available. Additionally, one of the favorite integrative approaches among allied medical circles is chelation therapy. This therapy involves the infusion of an EDTA in solution into the blood. EDTA then in theory binds to ions such as calcium which are required for plaque formation. The therapy often requires up to 30 or more infusions. The numerous infusions beg the question of volume expansion in the recipient. The extra amount of fluid is particularly serious in cardiac as well as kidney compensated individuals. The Oral Chelates program is an excellent alternative.
The Oral Chelates program is made up of two parts. The first part is an arterial cleansing and support formula. Its objectives are three-fold:
1.
To promote and maintain the vitality of the cardiovascular system (Ginseng & Hawthorn).
2.
To minimize the opportunities for blockages to occur by
A)
Promoting peripheral vasodilatation (Ginkgo biloba)
B)
Dissolution of blood vessel plaque with fibre based nutrients (Psyllium seed & orange peel)
3.
To improve the quality and fluidity of the blood by
A)
Lowering the viscosity of the blood (garlic)
B)
Keeping the cholesterol level low and acceptable (garlic & ginger)
Recommended dosage is three capsules daily on empty stomach.
The Oral Chelates complex is the second part of the program.
Sodium EDTA is commonly used. The drawback to this is that the sodium could contribute to hypertension in theory. The Oral Chelates complex makes use of an EDTA that possesses a strong affinity for calcium. Thus plaque formation is hindered. In addition, the complex carries anti-oxidant herbs such as hesperidin, spirulina and kelp which helps prevent the removal of existing plaques from blood vessels. To solubilize plaque and promote liquidity, gugulipid and garlic are added respectively.
